Self doubt and Imposter Syndrome are one of the more common problems that I find through my work with clients. What triggers this is when I hear “I’m not good enough” or “I will never be able to…”
Imposter Syndrome can be a difficult and lonely place feeling a need to role model a strong example outwardly, yet inwardly it is a problem creating inner turmoil, anxiety and unwelcome stress. This can be extremely challenging and impacts upon performance, job satisfaction, relationships with colleagues and ultimately how we value ourselves. What’s more, over time we reinforce the (limiting) belief by interpreting events through a negative lens. Through questioning I tend to find that this has been a long standing problem. In fact it has been going on so long that when asked “when did you decide this?” It usually takes some time for the client to think of an answer.
Here is a handy tip, think back to an example of not being good enough (or similar). Pretend to watch yourself at work or wherever you are in that example and notice your own response to how you are doing. How do you respond to that ‘you’? You may notice that you are doing ok, or that you could be doing better in some way. What do you want to say to yourself?
Once you bring your belief(s) out into the open by acknowledging your response to yourself, you can begin to improve your future self. So you can think yourself positive as long as you are prepared to let go of those old beliefs. Are you ready to do this? Give it a go!
